Kelley Sweeney from Omagh, Co. Tyrone, completed the Diploma in Montessori Teaching and the Diploma in Advanced Supervision in Childcare in 2012. She opened her own school in Sligo soon after, and puts her success down to her training at Portobello.

My friend of many years had completed a diploma in Montessori years ago, and encouraged me to go for it as I had already received a B. Ed Hons degree, but hadn’t taught full-time for a number of years. I found the Montessori course online, and was originally going to complete it through distance learning; however, an opportunity came up to transfer to the classroom-based course, it was the best decision I ever made!

I completed both Diplomas in October 2012 and opened my own Montessori School in County Sligo at the end of November 2012. I had four students enrolled for sessional Montessori pre-school this year, and am now registered as a service provider for the free ECCE pre-school year for September 2013.

I see my business already growing in strength, and would put this down to the sound training I received.

I would advise anyone interested in doing Montessori training to go for the classroom-based training, I cannot put into words how invaluable it is even working alongside others who are in the same situation as you and bouncing ideas off one another when needed.

I would also recommend the Early Years department in Portobello, Dublin, especially Olga her years of experience and dedication are obvious in her passion for the Montessori Method and everything it involves. I would definitely recommend this course to anyone interested in working in the field of Early Childhood Care and Education .
