Prepare the soil
Remove any weeds and debris from the garden beds and loosen the soil with a fork or tiller. You can also add compost or organic matter to improve the soil quality.
Prune shrubs and trees
Prune any dead or damaged branches from trees and shrubs. This will promote healthy growth and improve the appearance of your plants.
Flowers and vegetables
Spring is the perfect time to plant new flowers and vegetables. For your plants, choose easy-to-grow, long-flowering kinds such as cosmos, marigolds, annual rudbeckia, amaranthus and ammi, all of which are also excellent as cut flowers. For your vegetables, you can start to sow carrots, parsnips, leeks, beetroot, lettuce, summer cabbage and cauliflower.
Perennials
If you have perennials in your garden, divide them and transplant them to other areas of the garden. This will help to control their growth and promote new growth.
Fertilize
Apply a balanced fertilizer to your garden beds to provide nutrients for your plants.
Mulch
Apply a layer of mulch around your plants to help retain moisture and prevent weeds from growing.
Watering
Water your plants regularly, especially during dry periods. This will help to ensure that your plants stay healthy and hydrated.
Pests and diseases
Keep an eye out for any signs of pests or diseases on your plants. Treat any problems promptly to prevent them from spreading.
