Dublin 20 includes Chapelizod and Palmerstown. This is one of only two postal districts in Dublin to span the north and south sides of the River Liffey. The village of Chapelizod lies in the wooded valley of the River Liffey. Notable buildings in the village include the church of St Laurence, which has a medieval bell tower. Chapelizod was home to the writer Joseph Sheridan Le Fanu. His Georgian house stands at the corner of Park Lane facing Main Street in front of the church. Palmerstown is located about 8 kilometres west of Dublin city centre. In medieval times, a “palmer”was a pilgrim who returned from the Holy Land with a palm branch or leaf. In Palmerstown, these pilgrims were associated with the leper hospital of Saint Laurence. There are a number of courses available from colleges and course providers in Dublin 20.
