Course Description
Ukulele – Beginners – Thursday 4.45pm Option
People’s College for Continuing Education and Training
The Ukulele for Beginners is a fun course and an opportunity to learn a new instrument which is becoming very popular.
Tutor: Darren Loughran, MMus.
Darren Loughran is an Irish classical guitarist and music teacher from Dublin. Having begun his musical studies at an early age. He started on wind instruments and then progressed to the guitar in his early teens. Darren furthered his studies on the guitar in the Dublin Conservatory of Music, under the tutelage of Alan Grundy and later world renowned guitarist Denis
Azabagic before going on to receive a Masters Degree in performance and musicology in Maynooth University.
Aside from teaching Darren enjoys an active performance career in solo classical guitar recitals in Ireland and abroad.
This course has been designed to deal with all of the basic chords, strumming techniques and the correct use of the plectrum.
This is definitely a ‘fun course’ and we hope to be able to create a Ukulele Orchestra in which all of the students can participate in the future.
