Course Overview

Our QQI Level 5 Healthcare Support Course is designed for those aspiring to become Healthcare Assistants (HCAs). This comprehensive course equips learners with both the theoretical knowledge and practical skills needed to excel in healthcare roles.

By completing this Healthcare Support course, students will be prepared to work in a wide range of healthcare settings, including hospitals, residential care, and community care. The practical nature of the modules ensures that learners can immediately apply their skills in the workplace.

This qualification also provides a pathway for students to progress to further or higher education, allowing them to transfer to other programs within the National Framework of Qualifications.

Aims

The programme aims to provide learners with all the skills and knowledge necessary to work as healthcare assistants in hospitals, nursing homes, day care centres and in home care.

The last 3 modules are electives and are interchangeable with the following: Care of the Older Person, Palliative Care, Infection Prevention Control and Social Studies.

Entry Requirements

A minimum Ordinary Level Leaving Certificate standard of education or equivalent QQI Certificate. Mature applicants with relevant life/work experience.

Continuous Assessment

There are 1-2 assignments per module, all submittable online.

Learners must complete 160 hours’ work experience in a suitable healthcare setting.
