Programmable Logic Controllers

The aim of this module is to develop the students understanding of Programmable Logic Controllers as applied in systems used in automated processes across a range of industrial applications.
On completion of this programme, students should be able to:
Describe the layout and operation of various PLC systems and the different program languages used in the industry;
Select suitable automation sensors/ actuators and configure PLC hardware to interface with the I/O devices;
Explain the operations of basic PLC application programmes and convert Relay Logic to PLC Logic;
Develop and Debug PLC programs.

Entry Requirements | This programme is suitable for maintenance personnel involved in fault-finding and repair of electromechanical machines. The programme provides a practical introduction to PLC operation and programming. Electrical experience is necessary, as are basic computing skills. All applicants will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Lifelong Learning reserves the right to require applicants to attend for an interview to determine their suitability for the programme. |
