Pre-University Biomedical and Pharmaceutical Science

This sector represents some of the largest industries operating in Ireland, with high employment and significant
research occurring. This one-year course is designed to give students an introduction to Biomedical and Pharmaceutical Science and covers a variety of areas related to the sciences. In addition to developing your scientific knowledge, studying Biomedical and Pharmaceutical science enables you to develop a wide range of skills, including problem-solving, teamwork, data handling and analysis, organisation, and communication. This broad skill set will be extremely valuable no matter what career path you choose. The mathematics element allows students to bring their levels up to the competence relevant to their intended third level course.
Students will also have the option to study other modules along with science to shape their qualification for entry to their desired course or area of employment.

Career Path | Graduates may pursue science certifi cate or degree courses in TCD, DCU, Maynooth University, UCD, TUD City Campus/ Tallaght, UCC, NUIG, IT Tallaght, Technological University of the Shannon Athlone, Atlantic Technological University Sligo/Letterkenny IT/St. Angela’s College Sligo, South East Technological University Carlow, Munster Technological University Cork as well as other ITs and colleges around the country or in the UK. For example, there are up to 21 places in Maynooth University, 30 places in UCD science courses and another 20 places in UCD Agricultural Science courses and 10 places in Trinity in First Science for QQI graduates. Alternatively, students may seek immediate employment in a range of companies and projects that seek graduates with a science aptitude.
