Law – Jurisprudence

Jurisprudence is the study of law, or the philosophy of law. It helps us better understand the creation, application, and enforcement of laws.
On completion of this programme, students should be able to:
Define and explain the nature of jurisprudence;
Demonstrate an understanding of the historical relationship between the key jurists and schools covered within the syllabus;
Critically examine and compare the work of such key jurists and schools;
Explain the strengths and weaknesses of the work of key jurists and schools;
Define and discuss the relationship between law and morality;
Write coherently and convincingly drawing on concepts in the work of the key jurists or schools studied;
Formulate their own, critically aware, position on jurisprudential matters;
Demonstrate and appreciation of the relevance of jurisprudence to educational development in general and to the study of law in particular.

Entry Requirements | A candidate who is at least 23 years of age on 1 January of the year of entry is considered a mature student. Mature students apply directly to the centre and each applicant is assessed on a case by case basis. The standard minimum entry requirement for admission for Certificate programmes applies - five passes in the Leaving Certificate including Mathematics and either Irish or English. The minimum entry requirement for graduates of FETAC (Level 5) is a full FETAC level 5 award. All applicants will be considered on a case by case basis. Lifelong Learning reserves the right to require applicants to attend for an interview to determine their suitability for the programme. |
