Journalism – An Introduction

Course overview

This course is open to all adult members of the public. It is an entry level journalism course and aimed at those with no or limited journalism experience.

Participants on the course will learn how to get behind the headlines and controversies of the mainstream media to write the truth in a concise and readable manner.

Course duration

This is 10-week part-time evening course. It takes place Online every Monday evening from 8-9:30pm.

**Students will be required to have their own device and broadband to participate on the online courses.

Course aims

By the end of this course students will be able to:

  • Write an article for a local/national newspaper or online publication
  • Understand the essential requirements to write and publish an effective article
  • Adhere to professional journalistic standards

 

Course subjects

The following areas will be covered on this course:

  • Selecting, researching and writing an article
  • Interviewing techniques
  • Using Word Press – laptop not essential
  • Media Analysis
  • Guide to media law (basic introductory)

 

Assessment

There is no formal assessment on this course. Students will be given constructive feedback throughout this course on their ability to:

 

  • Select, research and write an article
  • Adhere to professional journalistic standards
