Overview
In recent years the HR profession has been shifting away from a traditional “service” perspective towards an analytical and behavioural focus of the role. Professionals working in HR need appropriate up to date knowledge combined with business skills, that is why this programme places HRM at the heart of organisational management in a rapidly changing, ever more complex, and increasingly global marketplace. This highly interactive and engaging programme provides a very effective practical overview of the latest thinking and case developments in HRM in order to allow for both competencies and skills development. It is aimed at those who have been given, or who are about to be given, operational responsibility for aspects of HRM and those who wish to progress into a career in Human Resource Management. It is also aimed at those who are stimulated by the growing recognition of the strategic significance of HRM in the modern organisation and those who wish to use the programme as a launchpad for further studies in HRM in due course.
Programme Aims and Objectives
Aims
The programme provides a very effective practical overview of the latest thinking and case developments in HRM in order to provide both a conceptual and practical basis for student learning. The programme is highly interactive, the enjoyment of class discussion by students being a major feature of the programme.
Objectives
On completion of the programme students should have acquired the skills to:
- Provide learners with an understanding of Human Resource Management principles and functions.
- Appreciate the strategic and operational significance of modern HRM.
- Appraise the key factors to drive motivation through performance management.
- Analyse the key role of HR in organisational communication and in implementing change programmes.
- Explore current trends and the impact of technology.
Assessment
To meet the requirements of the Diploma in Human Resource Management, students will be required to complete two assignments (50% each) for the year-long Diploma. Students enrolled in the 12-week intensive programme will have to complete a written assignment (50%) and an exam (50%).

- Human Resource Planning: Forecasting an organisation’s demand for labour in order to achieve its corporate strategy.
- Recruitment and Selection: Understanding the role of recruitment in an organisation and exploring various selection techniques to ensure that the best applicant is hired.
- Payroll and software for payroll: Payroll and HR
- Training and Development: Understanding the significance of training and development in an organisation.
- Employee Motivation: Exploring the power of employee motivation.
- Performance Management & Appraisal: Driving motivation/engagement through performance management/appraisal.
- Reward Management/Compensation: Understanding the significance of Total Reward Management and its significance in engaging employees and driving performance.
- HR Leadership; – Understanding the critical role of Leadership and HRM.
- HR and Change Management: Exploring the significance of change in today’s marketplace and understanding the role of HR in implementing change programmes.
- HR and Conflict Management: Understanding conflict and exploring methods to deal with conflict effectively.
- Building Winning Teams: Effectiveness of good team working for organisations.
- Organisational Communication & HRM: Discussing HR’s role in organisational communication.
- HRM Culture, Equality and Diversity: Understanding the impact of equality, diversity and culture in an organisation and the role of HRM in developing the same.
- Strategic HRM: Exploration of Strategic Human Resource Management.
- Employment Law: Brief overview of employment law.
- Managing Stress and Time at Work: An exploration of HR’s role in managing organisational stress and time.
- International HRM: Globalisation and HRM. A brief introduction to IHRM.
- HRM & Ethics: The role of HR in managing Ethics within the workplace.
- Employee Relations/Industrial Relations: IR in the modern workplace.
- Ending the Employment Relationship and Employee Retention: Employee marketing and exit procedures.
- Grievance & Discipline: Grievance and Discipline procedures to protect the employee and the organisation.
- HRM & Technology: The future of HRM – HRIS and the role of AI. HR Analytics.
- Data protection and GDPR in the workplace: An exploration of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
- HRM & Career Management: A discussion of HR’s role in Career Planning, Career Management, and Career Development.
Structure
The Diploma in Human Resource Management is offered as a part-time programme over one academic year (September intake) or 12-weeks (January intake). The programme is delivered in the form of lectures, group discussion, individual and group exercises, videos and case study analysis. The nature of the programme is essentially participative. Moodle will be used to facilitate student engagement with resources, as well as provide an interactive space for learners.

Fees
The fee for this Diploma is €2,000. This is inclusive of tuition, registration, exam fees and DBS library membership.
