Creative Writing: Advanced – REMOTE

Martin Keaveney Creative Writing



This Creative Writing course is designed for those firmly committed to their writing as a hobby or as a career. Writers may have a writing project or projects they wish to work on for the duration of the course. Participants with no specific project may wish to spend the early weeks finalizing their choice of project or are free to write in the weekly genre. Each week, writers can submit sections for workshop and discussion. Projects can be in any genre or medium. Course includes discussion of songwriting, romance fiction, multiform, video-game writing, writing for the internet and commercial script writing along with elements of writing craft. Alumni of other MKCW courses very welcome. Includes post-course editorial of an industry sample or equivalent (up to 3,000 words). Limited Places

About the facilitator

Martin Keaveney has been facilitating creative writing courses at Galway Arts Centre since 2018. He also lectures on Irish Literature at NUIG’s Autumn Series. His second novel, The Mackon Country, was published by Penniless Press, UK in 2021. This follows   his  debut novel Delia Meade (2020) and his collection of stories, The Rainy Day, ( 2018) (Penniless Press). Short fiction has been published in  many literary journals in Ireland, UK and US. He has also written for the screen and his writing has been produced and exhibited at many international  film festivals and on broadcast national television.  His  scholarship was recently published in the peer-reviewed  New Hibernia Review, Journal of Franco-Irish Studies, Liverpool Journal of Postgraduate Studies and Estudios Irlandeses. He has a B.A. in English and Italian, an M.A in English (Writing) and a Ph.D. at NUIG (Creative Writing and Textual Studies).   He was awarded the Sparanacht Ui Eithir for his research in 2016 and the NUIG Write-Up Bursary in 2018.  Martin is Director of Studies at www.writersisle.co.uk  See more at www.martinkeaveney.com
