Craft Circle Course
Course Description:
Have you wanted to try a new craft but don’t quite know which one to choose? Then this 6 week craft circle course is for you!
Each week you will be given a new craft project to try and, hopefully, in the process may fall in love with a new hobby. Every student will be given their own personal kit to complete each week with instructions on how to get it started (and finished) provided in the class. Don’t get it finished in class? Don’t worry! You can take it away with you and complete it at home as all materials are provided. Miss a week of the course? Again not to worry, your craft kit will be waiting for you the next week you rejoin us. You do not require any previous craft experience to complete this course.
This course is intended to give the student a brief introduction to four crafts as follows:
.
Week 1 – Diamond Art Sun Catchers
What’s this you ask? Think ‘painting by numbers’ but you are using diamonds to complete the picture rather than paint, creating an eye catching piece of art in the process. This week we will create some diamond art sun catchers that you can hang up on your wall
.
Week 2 – Scratch Art
For this last week you will try your hand at scratch art, which is exactly what it sounds like. Using your scratching tool you will scratch away at a black canvas with a predrawn design to reveal the colours underneath and the overall pretty picture.
.
Week 3 – Cross Stitch Bookmark
Students will be introduced to this needlecraft as we create a cross stitch bookmark together. The pattern will be provided to the student along with all materials to complete it. Please note that this project will not be finished within the class time and you will be encouraged to take it home with you to complete at your leisure.
.
Week 4 – Macramé Wall Hanging
This week will introduce students to Macramé, a French inspired craft, that involves the art knotting string in patterns to make decorative articles. We will make a small wall hanging using two of the more basic knotting techniques
.
Week 5 – String Art
This unique art form uses a wooden board with pegs or nails and colourful string to complete a predetermined pattern that has been mapped out on the board. The result is a unique piece of artwork that you can hang on your wall.
.
Week 6 – Make your own miniature Dream Catcher
This week we will make our own miniature dream catchers.
Please Note:
(Please be advised that a craft may be changed at short notice in the unlikely event that the materials required become unavailable but rest assured the substitute will still be as interesting!!)

I have loved crafting for as long as I remember, beginning when I used to help my mother make birthday cards as a girl. I enjoy the process involved in creating something new along with the peace and relaxation it brings and love to bring this experience to new people in the hope that they will also find their happy place through crafts. I’m particularly interested in cross stitch and diamond art but, through setting up and teaching my own personal craft circle with family and friends over the past 6 months, I have been introduced to new crafts such as painting by numbers and embroidery and am now enjoying these new craft projects. I hope that the same process will positively inspire any students who decide to take part in the course.
