Cork Counselling Services is a registered charity and non-profit organisation which provides professional counselling, psychotherapy and training services in the south of Ireland. It is managed jointly by Hugh Morley (Head Of Business), Laura Maybury (Head Of Clinical) and Karen Walsh (Head Of Training). All profits made in training go to ensuring counselling is available regardless of the clients ability to pay.
Formerly known as The Counselling Centre, Cork Counselling Services was founded in the early 1980s by Maria Huss, a Clinical Psychologist, Psychotherapist, and Trainer, who had moved to Ireland from Germany. The south of Ireland did not have a culture of professional counselling and psychotherapy at the time. We were one of the first centres in the south to provide a professional counselling service to members of the community.
From its foundation Cork Counselling Services were in high demand, and in 1989 we were granted charitable status. In spite of limited resources our services are as relevant and necessary today as when we started to work with clients over 35 years ago.
BSc (Hons) Counselling & Psychotherapy (4-Year Programme) The Counselling & Psychotherapy course is accredited by IACP and Coventry University and is organised on a part-time basis. BSc (Hons) Counselling & Psychotherapy (Top-up Programme) This course is accredited by Coventry University. Students who have qualified with an IACP Diploma in Counselling (or equivalent) may choose to complete the BSc (Hons) Counselling & Psychotherapy top-up course either on a full-time basis over 12 months or on a part-time basis over 24 months. Certificate in Introduction to Counselling & Psychotherapy Studies The one year Certificate in Introduction to Counselling & Psychotherapy Studies offers students an opportunity to take a step by step approach to professional training.
