Are you interested in becoming a bicycle technician?

Or are you working in the industry and looking to achieve certification?

If so this is the first step on your journey.

Stage 1 Bicycle Technician Athlone (LWETB) Blended July 2024 BEA – Bicycle Engineering Academy

This course is free of charge and is fully funded by Longford and Westmeath Education and Training Board (LWETB)

The course runs over 4 weeks

Week 1-3 consists of self guided online learning that you complete at a time that suits you

Week 4 consists of in house practical training

The programme aims to develop learners key skills and understanding in building, servicing, repair and maintenance of all types of bicycles

Mandatory successful completion of online modules ( is required prior to practical training)

On successful completion of the course you will be issued with a Level 2 City & Guilds certificate in Cycle Mechanics (3902-28)

COURSE CONTENT OVERVIEW:

Unit 1: Introduction, Health & Safety, Parts of a Bike, Workshop Etiquette, Tyres, Tubes & Puncture Repair
Unit 2: Remove and Replace a Cycle Rim Brake Assembly
Unit 3: Transmission – Remove & Replace a Cycle Gear Assembly
Unit 4: Service Cycle Hubs, cup & cone and sealed cartridge
Unit 5: Servicing Headset Assemblies including frame preparation
Unit 6: Service Bottom Bracket & Cranks including frame prep
Unit 7: Introduction to wheel Building
Unit 8: Augment a Cycle & Systematic Cycle Check
Unit 9: Strip and Rebuild, Full change of a cycle frame

On completion of this course, you will automatically become a registered member of the Irish Professional Bicycle Mechanics Association (IPBMA).

Learners can progress to one of our Advanced Bicycle Technician Courses following successful completion of the standard course.
