Job announcements in the areas of science and technology have bee on the increase in the last four years or so. But while such news should be welcomed by all, there are many who may feel that, having no background in third-level study, such subject areas are beyond them.
This is certainly not the case, however, as online and distance learning open up all kinds of educational opportunities that may have been previously inaccessible.
Through U Learning – a branch of the University of Limerick that is dedicated to continuing education and innovation – candidates with no previous third-level education can get started on developing their prospects in science and technology.
The college now runs Diploma and Degree courses in Science & Technology. The programme is the only one of its kind in Ireland. Learning is delivered via a combination of distance and online resources, on-campus tutorials and practical sessions, and company-based projects. The modular structure allows students to work at their own pace, and the syllabus provides a comprehensive grounding in the foundations of Science, Engineering and Technology, while also introducing areas of specialist knowledge found in high-tech operational environments.
The Diploma programme is primarily aimed at learners with no previous third-level qualification. Applications will be assessed on the basis of an application form and, in certain cases, an interview.
