Galway Climate Festival takes place Sept 12 – 15 2024

An initiative of the Galway City Council Climate Action Team, Galway Climate Festival will harness Galway’s creative energy and embrace our theatrical, musical, art, active travel, sport, Gaeilge and food cultures and will deliver on objectives as set out in the recently adopted Galway City climate action plan.

Opening on September 12 the festival will deliver 3 full days of events in a variety of venues in the city centre from Sept 12 to 15.

Highlights include ‘Playful Streets’, taking over Middle street and transforming it with a full free programme of games, pop-up street theatre, face painting, art, circus, and musical performances all aimed at prompting climate conversations.

A series of talks and panel discussions taking place in An Taibhdhearc on Friday 13 & Sat 14 will look at a variety of topics like the reality of achieving Carbon targets, how we adapt to the weather implications of climate change and a look at inspirational stories from around the world.

The repair Café at the Galway City museum will run mending workshops aimed at beginners on Sat 14 and there will be a further chance to promote Galway’s circular economy on Sunday 15 with the second hand market on Middle Street.

Féasta on Sat 14 in the Printworks, curated by Hinterland will provide an opportunity for people to enjoy some of the best local sustainably produced food in the West at a long table pop up. Hinterland, a new social enterprise aims to connect people food and place. Established by Glway chef Enda McEvoy, producer Claire Davy and local farmer Fergal Anderson they hope to create innovative solutions for a just, equitable, healthy and sustainable food system.
