Why Study With Dublin Art Studio

Dublin Art Studio hosts daytime, evening and private classes to a total of 8 students in painting, drawing. The teaching structure is designed to help you meet your artistic goals regardless of your level of experience over a period of time that suits your budget and personal timetable. Beginners and mid level to experienced artists work side by side in the studio. The philosophy is fluid and draws on all time periods to inform how to understand all aspects or art and its creation. The studio is like an open Art college with a very clear way of teaching directed to each individual personally and their work and ambitions based on where they are at when they enter the studio.

Pick a Class That’s Right for You

You are treated respectively and your work , if any, is also respected and built on from the first meeting. You can work intensively 3 days a week and at the night-time courses and life drawing or take 2-4 sessions a month. The courses are designed to allow for people with different budgets and time frames to gradually study art techniques to a high standard whether abstract or realistic, contemporary or classical.

Some people travel to study with this training provider from different parts of the world for 1-6 months. Others live in Dublin and have kids and jobs and come every Monday night or on Wednesdays/Saturdays each month – how you study is up to you. It’s advised to all students to study both the painting and drawing aspects of the courses to progress quickly and organically and to attend and practice life drawing regularly as this is essential to training your hand in the movement and rhythm of line and form. The studio is lit with full daylight bulbs, creating perfect lighting for painting and drawing.

What You Will Learn

The teaching philosophy of Dublin Art Studio is to draw on the techniques and methods of all art periods to inform present art practice. Their mission is to help students develop their personal abilities and style quickly and to a high level of competence. Students learn to analyze the work of the artists they admire and implement these techniques in their own practice. Study watercolor, illustration and beautiful techniques in oil painting, such as alla prima, glazing and sfumato. Learn the methods employed by Da Vinci, Goya, Egon Schiele and Gustav Klimt to paint flesh, or how to glaze over a grisaille figure like Ribera and Velazquez. For landscapes, study the work of Monet, Turner and the Russian painter Isaac Levitan. Those interested in contemporary work can learn from the drawing and painting techniques of Jenny Saville, Lucian Freud and Marlene Dumas, or the abstract techniques of Rothko , Diebenkorn and Agnes Martin. People can also take advantage of the monthly museum visits, where you will learn to analyze paintings “in the flesh”, the layers of paint and how they were created.
