Critic and writer Michael Dervan explores the life and work of nineteenth-century French composer Hector Berlioz. He was a true original, whose unpredictable genius still stirs the deepest of passions. He famously blurred the boundaries between life and art, especially in his Symphonie fantastique, a celebration of his five-year-long, unrequited passion that was prompted by seeing the Irish actress, Harriet Smithson in Shakespeare’s Hamlet and Romeo and JulietIrish National Operagives a concert performance of his final opera, Béatrice et Bénédict on Tuesday on 1st October at the National Concert Hall
