The overall aim of the BA Hospitality Management Studies is to prepare learners academically and professionally leading to employment at management level in the dynamic world of the hospitality industry. This is achieved through a comprehensive programme designed to be challenging and fulfilling in an environment which focuses on the individual learner as an active participant in his/her own learning.

Entry Requirements At least OD3 in Irish or English, Irish Leaving Certificate in five subjects. Results must include at least O D3 in Mathematics or an equivalent qualification Applicants must be currently working in the hospitality industry or must have substantial experience in the hospitality industry in order to be considered for the course. All applicants will be interviewed. The School will consider applications from mature students (aged 23 and over) who do not hold the appropriate minimum entry requirements but who have substantial experience in the hospitality industry. The final selection of candidates for places on the course will be made on the basis of Leaving Certificate results (or equivalent) and experience in the hospitality industry. Places may be offered to mature students who meet certain criteria in respect of age, suitability and experience to-date in the hospitality industry. Transferees from other courses will also be considered. Students will be allowed to transfer between the day-release and evening courses, subject to approval from the Head of Department and/or Head of School. Interviews will be used in the selection process. Exemptions may be given in specific modules (see section on exemptions and Recognition of Prior Learning), on a case by case basis.

As such, they are in demand by a large cross section of the industry from general and operational management within the tourism industry, to more specialised areas. Career opportunities in this sector include marketing and sales, HRM, food and beverage management, rooms division management, and conferencing management in Ireland and abroad. In addition, graduates may progress to a variety of postgraduate courses in a range of disciplines.
