Do you work in the field of adult education and would like to find out more about ant-racism approaches in your field? This two-day training – ‘Re-Thinking Anti-Racism Practice in Adult Education’ is led by two experts in the field of non-formal Adult Education Zoryana Pshyk, Community Connector at Maynooth University Access Programme and Lilian Nwanze Akobo, Associate Lecturer, Department of Adult and Community Education, Maynooth University.
The hands on and practical sessions is designed for adult educators who are interested in anti-racism practices and innovative approaches in working with groups on topic of racism and discrimination.
The seminars will equip participants with the tools to integrate anti-racism actions into their work through creative methodologies and will enhance their abilities to design and conceptualize non formal activities that address issues experienced by marginalised groups.
During this training participants will work together to re-think anti-racism practices, and to find new way of engaging with groups to create a space for dialogue about their experiences and day to day reality, with the hope to develop project concepts for Erasmus+ international mobility projects.
This training is aimed at adult educators, community education tutors, trainers, volunteers, group leaders, facilitators
Objectives of the course include:
- To develop deeper understanding around racism and discrimination
- To explore creative ways of engaging in meaningful conversations around racism and discrimination
- To explore the intersectionality of experiences of vulnerable groups exposed to discrimination and racism
- KA1 and KA2 Networking
- To generate creative approaches in supporting the above groups
Maynooth University is a constituent university of the National University of Ireland. It is located in Maynooth, County Kildare, Ireland. Some of the methods used include small group discussion based learning where students are encouraged to engage with the subject or a problem by bringing the full extent of their own knowledge and experience to deepen the level of critical analysis. Skilled Adult Education facilitators accompany the group learning process and guide the students towards better understanding their own life world through promoting individual personal reflection. And so Adult Education creates dynamic learning environments in which participation is a key ingredient for exploring real life issues regarding human relationships, social and political issues in terms of social justice, equality, democracy and diversity.
DACE has a long tradition and commitment of providing and developing a wide range of courses both On Campus and at local level. Over the years our Continuing Education programme has grown and developed in response to the changing needs of adult learners. The role of continuing education courses is to provide third level learning opportunities for adults, which are flexible and part-time. Some, such as our Return to Learning courses, are designed particularly for those without previous third level education but who are considering re-entering education at this time of their life or their career. Others answer more direct needs of the individual and society such as our Addiction Studies or Community Development and Leadership courses. Our Training and Continuing Education certificate (Level 7) has become widely recognised as the Train the Trainer course par excellence.
