Course Description
This exciting programme will provide participants with the skills, knowledge and competencies required to provide a comprehensive guiding service for tourists visiting and travelling in Ireland. It will be relevant, practical and up-to-date with industry needs and follow best practice guidelines.
THE AIMS OF THIS COURSE
- To prepare learners to work as a tour guide in the heritage tourism sector at a regional level.
- To equip learners with the skills needed for group management including health, safety and environmental best practice and customer care.
- To equip learners with the professional, technical, social, personal and administrative skills to prepare and offer a quality guided service for a range of market profiles.
- To develop learners’ understanding and knowledge of tourism and heritage industry best practice.
- To equip learners with the professional awareness to evaluate and respond to the range of issues ongoing in the industry e.g. main bodies, legislation, sustainability, development and protection of heritage.
- To develop skills in research (online and other serviced sources), interpretation and delivery of information on Irish heritage and culture.
- To develop an understanding and appreciation of Ireland’s culture and heritage in a national and international context.
COURSE DURATION
- Course Start date is the 13th of February 2024.
- The programme duration is 12 weeks in total (including exams & presentations)
- 3 evenings a week 5.00 pm – 6.30 pm (Online) and Saturdays 9.00 am – 4.00 pm (In person at Dublinia)
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
- Leaving Certificate or QQI Level 5 Award or equivalent qualification
- 18 years or over
- Fluent English – both oral and written (B2 level of proficiency)
- Previous relevant experience in the tourism sector
- Basic computer literacy and use of mobile apps
- Suitable candidates will be required to successfully complete the interview process
PROGRESSION
- Learners will have the opportunity to complete the National Tour Management module in April/ May 2024. By adding on this module, you will achieve the National Tour Guide badge.
