Course Description
Process Control & Instrumentation
Institute of Technology Carlow
This programme is designed to provide a comprehensive introduction to the role played by Measurement and Control Systems in industry. It is targeted primarily at those already qualified in an engineering/science discipline and who wish to develop a basic understanding of process instrumentation systems.
This programme is not an alternative to formal training as an Instrumentation Technician.
The aim of this programme is to equip the learner with a basic understanding of the theory on which modern industrial measurement and control systems are based and to promote the application of this understanding to usefully consider selection, installation and application issues relating to instrumentation systems. Emphasis will be placed on practical application problems, sources of calibration errors and the necessity of accurate measurement for process safety and product quality. It will facilitate the learner to enhance their contribution as part of a multi-disciplinary process maintenance or operations team.
